Art Masterpiece
Welcome to Knox Art Masterpiece!
KGA Parents:
Art Masterpiece is a great way to volunteer in your child’s homeroom, and educate the class about one of the great artists of our time.
-
KGA Knights will be exposed to a diverse range of artists who are considered masters in their own style.
-
Each month, a designated volunteer teacher will use a pre-written lesson plan to discuss the “artist of the month” and highlight details about their life and unique technique. Then other parent volunteers help distribute materials and help as needed.
-
This is a very positive program where it’s our job as “art guides” to encourage students to create, and enjoy the process of “making.”
Students will bring their artwork home at the end of each lesson. The only exception is that we’ll randomly choose 5-7 art pieces each month (in every class) to display around campus.
Art Masterpiece Volunteers
Dear KGA Parent Volunteers,
Thank you for helping bring Art Masterpiece to KGA students!
To access the CUSD art lessons, volunteers need to create a login with the district using a Google (gmail.com account). For more information, please email us.
PREPPING THE LESSON:
Bin Prep takes about 1 hour during the school day–approximately 1-2 weeks ahead of the lesson. About 3-4 parent volunteers ensure all of the supplies in the bin are “prepped” ahead of the lesson.
-
Sign up for “bin prep” on the grade level Sign Up Genius (a link is sent from your grade level coordinator).
-
Review the lesson in the CUSD Lesson collection (this is the link from the district).
-
When arriving at school for Bin Prep, sign in with Mr. Scott and get a volunteer badge, then proceed to the teacher workroom (in the main office).
-
Review the grade level binder stored in the 5th grade bin in the teacher workroom.
-
Follow directions for prepping the assignment:
-
Photocopy parent letters and cut into thirds.
-
Photocopy name plates and cut down.
-
Use a paper cutter to cut black construction paper (the border for the artwork).
-
Glue the parent letter onto the center of the black construction paper.
-
Ensure all supplies are in the bin.
-
Consider making a sample art piece.
-
-
Feel free to use the tables in the teacher breakroom as long as it's not during teacher lunch times.
-
Give teachers priority when using the workroom.
-
Ask the front office if you need help working the copier, etc.
TEACHING LESSONS:
-
Please be encouraging and positive with the students.
-
Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the lesson and stay in the assigned classroom.
-
The bin should be in the classroom (your grade level coordinator will pick it up from the teacher workroom and bring it to the classroom).
-
Open the bin and double check supplies for the project. Look through the binder for any teaching notes.
-
Log into the lesson on Google Slides using your Gmail account (Note: the teacher can pull up the presentation link on the white board).
-
Set up the tables and chairs in the classroom, if needed. Put out initial supplies.
-
Introduce volunteers to the teacher and students.
-
Take pictures of the lesson at various stages and some completed works (be sure to ask the teacher which students do not have social media waivers). Send photos to the Grade Level Coordinator.
-
Mount artwork to the black construction paper. IMPORTANT – remind students to write the name/teacher on the back of their black paper.
-
Have students store any wet projects on the floor of the classroom (they can pick up later).
-
Use class rosters to select 5-6 student projects to display around campus (place these in the bin in the teacher workroom; it will be marked “art to hang”).
-
The majority of the students will take their art home at the end of the day, except those displaying on campus. Note: Every student will display lesson 5 on campus (art will come home after Arts Night).
AFTER TEACHING:
-
Return remaining supplies to bin, including the binder. (IMPORTANT: be sure brushes are clean, dry, and stored correctly.)
-
Toss any art supplies (e.g., paint brushes) that are broken. Keep glue bottles for refilling.
-
IMPORTANT: Complete the Lesson Completion Log on top of the bin, confirming that lesson was taught (district requirement)
-
Place all the supplies in the bin and return it to the teacher workroom.
-
Leave a clean room.
PLEASE remember to only use the restrooms in the teacher breakroom.
